Ultrasound and Vascular Techs: What do you wish someone had told you before you chose sonography?

I've been looking for a #medicine #career that fits me and will help provide for my family's future. So far, all I've read from #sonographers seemed like statements given specifically for marketing purposes or the rantings of someone who wouldn't be happy in any job. I need some pearls of wisdom from someone who loves #sonography—even if they wish they were doing something else for whatever reason.

I don't know if I'm ready for college after graduation. My parents won't let me get a job and FAFSA sign ups haven't come yet. Should I take a year off after high school or should I try to go to college with my scholarships. (i don't want to take loans)

I really want to go to college, and I'm not interested in the military. However, I am in a program called Young Marines. Anyways, I have tried to convince my parents to allow me to get a job and they won't. I graduate in May of 2018 at the age of 17, but I would be 18 in August of 2018. If I don't get enough scholarships, should I get a job and live with someone for free or should I go to college and pay back student loans? I really don't want to do the loans, but if I have to I will take out a SMALL loan and pay it back later. My interests are #sonography #dentistry #vocals

Would sonography be a good fit for me

This last year i have been taking healthcare prereqs with the plan of going into a sonography program. After learning more about what sonographers actually do i've started to have seconds thoughts. I'm a smart kid with math being my strongest subject and english my weakest. What concerns me most is my lack of a good sense of direction. I have never been a good navigator and i have a hard time visualizing directions in my head. It seems like sonography is all about navigating ultrasound waves and understanding how they bounce off and intereact with organs in the body, which to me seems very confusing. I'd like to have a job in healthcare and i'm now thinking about nursing instead. Any advice? #medicine #medicine-sonography #sonography #healthcare #hospital-and-health-care
