Do you find the hands-on care of a physical therapist or the executive responsibility of a physician to be more rewarding?

I'm interested in becoming a physical therapist or a physician, specifically a PM&R (Physical Medicine and Rehab doctor). I've heard that physical therapy is one of the most rewarding occupations, but some say it can become monotonous. I've heard that being a doctor also rewarding, but a common criticism is that physicians do not have the opportunity to connect with patients on as personal of a level as physical therapists have. Between the two, which is the more rewarding and exciting? #doctor #medicine #physician #physical-therapist #physical-therapy #pmnr

Should I choose an obscure major for Physical Therapy school or stick with Exercise Science?

I am going to be a first year undergraduate student in the fall at Pacific University Oregon. The most popular majors are the health sciences and I am planning on majoring in Exercise Science. However, I know it is very difficult to get into Doctor of Physical Therapy school after I graduate and I've heard that majoring in something other than Exercise Science/Kinesiology can make you stand out on your application. I would still earn all of my prerequisites for DPT school but I was thinking in majoring in something else that I'm interested in such as Journalism or Political Science. Should I stick with Exercise Science as my major, or go for something more obscure that will help me stand out during the application process? #physical-therapist #therapy #physical-therapy #physical #exercise-physiology #exercise-science #kinesiology

Is having athletic training experience helpful if I was interested in going into Physical Theraphy?

I will be starting college in the fall and pursuing an athletic training degree. When I graduate I will be a certified athletic trainer. I also have the option to go into Physical Therapy post-grad. I am wondering if it would be good to get some experience with my athletic training degree before going into PT school. Would there be a benefit to have some AT experience before going into PT school? #healthcare #physical-therapist #athletic-training #physical-trainer #physical-fitness

What setting would be the best for me to work in as a physical therapist?

I am about to start college this upcoming fall, and since physical therapy requires a doctorate degree, I have awhile until I am done with school. Although I have some time, I like to think ahead, and I am unsure which setting would best suit me in the field of physical therapy. I have the options of working in a hospital, a clinic, or in a sports environment. I love watching sports and participating in them, so at one point I was leaning towards that setting, but I have a calm and patient personality that might be better for the hospital or clinic. I have been a dancer for over 10 years now, and actually had to go to physical therapy because of an injury from dancing. My physical therapist was able to reunite me with my passion of dance, so I would love to help someone return to their beloved sport as well. However, is it more difficult to find a job as a physical therapist in the sports field? At first my dream was to become a physical therapist for a professional sports team, but I am unsure if they would want someone with more experience rather than an individual fresh out of college. Plus it seems like that job would come with lots of pressure, and I do best when no pressure is on my shoulders. Overall, I am wondering which path would fit me best for physical therapy. #sports #physical-therapist #therapy #physical-therapy #hospital #physical #clinic

Should I major in Biology or Kinesiology to get accepted into Physical Therapy school?

I want the best possible chance to be accepted into Physical Therapy School after I receive a BS degree. Kinesiology is the recommended program, but it is the largest program at the school I plan to attend. Would I have a better chance of being accepted into the professional Physical Therapy program if I majored in Biology or Biochemistry instead? What 4-year degree is recommended that will not only assist me in the PT master's program but will allow me to be employable in case entry into the Master's Program is delayed.

I am currently a senior in high school. I will graduate on June 11th. I'm torn between two college majors. One course of study is Physcial Therapy. One of my biggest concerns with the PT route is the 4 year degree leading up to the PT Master's Program. I have attended multiple college tours. At each PT session the speaker noted that getting into the PT program is like "fitting through the eye of a needle." I'm up for the challenge but will admit I have concerns about being financial stable while I attempt to "fit through the eye". Suggestions anyone?? #physical-therapist #occupational-therapy
