Edwin’s Career Stories
What is the most useful piece of career advice you got as a student, and who gave it to you?
Make sure you go to college because this is really helpful. If you are having trouble with your major just remember that your “major does not equal career”. There are exceptions to this, of course, doctors and lawyers do not follow that quote.
How did you start building your network?
This is an interesting question! I recently transferred to UC Santa Barbara as a communication major taking classes remotely in Los Angeles. I applied to all of the extracurricular activities and programs; unfortunately, I was rejected by all of those clubs. I decided to reflect on myself and develop new skills. For example, I started listening to podcasts on different topics such as career, education, and stocks. Additionally, I was able to reach out to people on LinkedIn, who have my dream career and connect with my fellow classmates. I would say this is an ongoing process and you can also learn so much from the people you surround yourself with. However, I am still building and developing my networks.
