Is a graphic design degree with a concentration in marketing better than just a graphic design degree?

Hi! I am a freshman at a community college currently and am trying to decide on a major for when I transfer to a four-year college. The Graphic design degree with marketing has more marketing classes of course. I am curious if that would boost my job availability or not so much. I enjoy the art side of graphic design and love to write so I am wondering if the marketing concentration would be beneficial.

I don't know what I want to major in College

Well I first started college and had many ups and downs. I met a teacher who was a Child Development teacher and she was the best professor I ever had. I decided to major in Child Development. After that I worked with children from babies to High Schoolers. I figured out I don't have the patience for them and just dislike children. So I took a break from school and decided to go to a Junior College and take my General Education Courses and transfer. So I decided to take up Advertising. One day the professor ripped up my paper and said I didn't do the Print Ad the way she wanted. Remind you first ever Advertising course I ever took. So I decided to go into Graphic Design. I was in for a rude awakening it was required to take a beginning drawing class. I couldn't draw even if I tried and I'm not that great at Photoshop or the computer much. So now I'm lost about what I should major in college. I love to communicate with others. I hate math, chemistry, biology, and dealing with customer service. I love to have a career where I can enjoy it and not be bored and excites me. Please help me I'm lost. #college #graphics #professionals #oral-communication

What advice can you give to an upcoming college student that is completely happy of their major, but scared they won't get a job?

I will be attending school as a college freshman this coming August majoring in graphic design. I've known that graphic design is what I want to do for the rest of my life for a long time, I'm just nervous that I will regret going to school in the arts just in case someday after I graduate, I won't get a job. With me going to a school in New York City, I have a little bit more confidence, but the competition again makes me nervous. Any advice to help ease my nerves would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! #communications #graphic-design #arts #graphics #communication-art

What is the best way to determine if the major you picked is best for you?

I've known for a very long time that going into the art field is what I wanted to do. But it seems that everytime I think about pursuing my dream of graphic design, I get very nervous that I won't be able to get a job or I will be struggling as my career evolves and I will have to switch careers. The best way to put this question is, is how to know you won't want to change your career after putting so much money into schooling? Thank you! #art #communications #graphic-design #arts #graphics

How do I start in a career?

Hello, I am a recent graduate and I have various skills in design, media, research, and web. Despite this, I am a beginner within all of these fields and I can't tell which career I should enter into or how. A lot of these jobs require a lot of experience. While I am very good and a hardworker, I do not have tons of work experience in one field. Overall, I have only a year of actual working experience. I can't take an unpaid job because of my loans either. The focus of my degree was originally in graphics and communication but I have found that those jobs are not too common in my area and marketing is more common. Any suggestions? I'm afraid if I take the wrong job, I won't get experience to build in a career and won't have stability or benefits in the long term if I don't follow a career path. #career #career-counseling #marketing #recruiting #career-development #marketing-and-advertising #graphics #web-design

I'm a graphic designer, but I can't draw. Will this hurt me?

I'm a graphic designer (think layouts, typography graphics, and aesthetic designs) but I've never been able to draw. Seeing as that's a big part of designing, will this hurt me in a real world setting? Might be important to note that I do actually also have a background in photography, so I could take original images, just can't draw. #graphicdesign #graphics #illustration #digital-illustration #graphic-design

How much training do you need to be a graphic designer?

My instructor told us that we don't get certification in our program because "you can't certify talent." That being said, how do I know when my skills are adequate? What kind of training is most important for a graphic designer- knowledge in the software, artistic skill, or raw creativity? Thanks! #design #graphics #personal-development #graphic-design #career-details
