How to Become a Nurse Practitioner + Other Questions on the Profession

To any nurse practitioners out there available to answer questions, how did you get to where you are now (education-wise). I’m not quite sure how to get to being a practicing nurse practitioner-in any field- through education. From what I understand, you have to have a Masters of Nursing and also a degree for Nurse Practitioners but I’m not certain. Also, which medical field for nurse practitioners pays the most? I know nurse practitioners can do just about anything but I’m not sure what is most financially rewarding. As a side note, I am especially interested in the surgical aspect of the medical field, so being a surgical nurse/nurse practitioner would be ideal depending on how much it pays on average.

Becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practictioner with a Non-Nursing Degree?

Hi! Is there anyone who has gotten their BSN or MSN with a non-nursing degree? Can you share your experience? I've seen that Columbia and NYU have MSN programs for non-nursing degrees. I'm a rising senior in high school and I think I'll pursue a psychology degree in college, then apply to a MSN program for non-nursing degree to become a PMHNP. Is this the way to go?

What should I major in in order to be prepared for nursing school and simultaneously complete the prereqs for nursing school as well?

I'm in 12th grade and interested in becoming a nurse, but most of the universities I want to go to say that to enter the BSN program you have to have certain credits that I can only attain by attending university in my first two years. During those first two years what should I major in to prepare me for nursing school and to help me complete those prerequisites? I was thinking biology, but I'm not too sure?

Hello! My name is Stanley and I am a current high school student. I'm conducting an interview with any professional in the Family Nurse Practitioner field for a Foundations in Health Science Class project about careers! I have created a total of 13 questions. Comment on this post, answering all 13 questions to be apart of my assignment.

1. What profession did you choose? Why? 2. How many years of college did you go through? 3. What jobs did you work on before you landed your present professional job? 4. How can I decide if I should earn a PH.D. in this field? 5. Were you in a college program? 6. Did you have to pivot and go back to school at a later date? 7. Did you shadow another professional in the field? 8. Did you join any school clubs related to your current profession? 9. Was there a particular subject you struggled with during your school years? 10. What skill sets did you learn or gain while pursuing your career? 11. What is your favorite part of your career? (Ex: Meeting new people) 12. Do you think the amount of time you put into reaching this career was worth it? Why or why not? 13. Would you say that this career is hard or difficult in both reaching it and now practicing the profession ? Why or why not?

Does one absolutely need to be good under pressure and stress to be a pediatric nurse? If so, is it possible to improve how you handle pressure?

I am absolutely in love with working with children, as I have a part time job after school at an elementary school. I know that this is what I should do with my life. But, I have always been set on nursing and I am also totally in love with that. Pediatric nursing seems like the absolute perfect job for me and I feel so much excitement for this career. But, I am not very good under stressful situations and I can't handle gross things all that well. Should I consider another career path? Or is it possible for me to improve both of these obstacles?
