What do architecture programs in college look for in portfolios when applying?

I've heard that applying to architecture schools is really competitive. I've looked up some sample portfolios online, and they're always so amazing! I think of myself as an artistic person, but I don't think my art skills are phenomenal. If I don't have fantastic art pieces for my portfolio, should I even consider applying? #architecture

How do I know if my major of choice is right for me?

Right now I'm somewhat torn between majors. Depending on what school I attend I will choose a different major. Illinois Tech is my number one school right now, and seems to be the school I will most likely attend, and I'll be studying architecture. The field has always interested me and I've always wanted to be involved in the design process of buildings, but I don't know what to expect from the field of study/work. How will I know if this is for me? #major #architecture #college #college-major

After a 5 year architecture undergrad program should I go to graduate school?

I like the idea of going to a B.Arch program but I also would like to go to grad school. Would you recommend continuing to get a architecture masters after a B.Arch or is that a waste of money and time. And if it is advisable to get a masters in architecture after a B.Arch then should I work in the architecture field first before I pursue a masters or should I go straight from B.Arch to a masters program. #architecture #information-architecture #solution-architecture #architecture-and-planning #graduate-school #graduate #graduate-school-

I am interested in Architectural Engineering. I have been told that getting my Master's Degree will require 6 years of schooling - is this true? Or do I only need the standard 5 years?

I would like to earn my master's in Architectural Engineering, thus I need to know how many years of schooling I am required to take. Hopefully, money earned through scholarship programs will assist in paying for additional years of schooling. #architecture #architectural-engineering #college-advice

What should I choose?

Hi, my name is Jess. I have a dilemma, I don't know whether to choose between #Fashion design or architecture. I love to #design but I am worried it does not pay a lot, on the other hand I don't really love #architecture as much as design but it pays more money. I want a career that I love but also pays. I am confused.

My dream as a landscape architect is to implement rooftop gardens, window boxes, and varieties of other things to make big cities greener. I want to know how possible it would be for me to do that after I graduate from the landscape architecture program, and if I can do that through a firm or if I should do that through my own firm, allowing for that to be our mission. #landscape-architecture #architecture #social-entrepreneurship #social-impact #career-specific

Should I get a Mac or a PC for college if I am majoring in architecture?

This fall I will be a freshman majoring in architecture at Cal Poly SLO. My dream is to become an architect and I really want to make the most of this college experience. I am trying to decide whether I should get a Macbook of some kind of a Windows laptop. The students I have spoken with who are currently enrolled at Cal Poly have given conflicting advice. What operating system do real Architects use? Where is the best architecture software available? If you were entering into college right now to major in architecture which operating system would you want to use? Any other tips on picking a laptop for college would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance for your advice! #architecture #architect

Architecture or Interior Design (or Carpentry)?

i'm not much of an art person but i know that i want to see myself in the future building furniture like sawing and hammering and such. The problem is, i don't know if i have what it takes to design them. My plan is to have architecture as my priority program and my alternative is the interior design since I only want to be involved in the woodworking process. But seriously, i need help. I don't know programs that much that can really suit my tastes. (Is there even a furniture carpentry in college?) #architecture #interior-design #carpentry #furniture

What does it take to build and run a new apartment complex?

Hello, I've all but decided that apartment complex ownership is the business I want to start with as an entrepreneur. I'm currently working toward finishing my associate of arts degree, taking business/economics/accounting classes to assist me with the technical aspects of starting the business. I plan to graduate in spring of next year. After graduation, I'm going to allow myself some time to save up money for a down payment on a loan. Along with these plans, I have quite a few ideas about how I want to run my business (between floor-plans, amenities etc.) but to be quite honest I'm not sure where to go from there. I may ask more questions later if I need more detail on a particular aspect. So my questions are these; What major expenses may I be forgetting or overlooking in the planning process? What advice do you have for first-time landlords? What are some tips or red flags on choosing builders, contractors and inspectors? What advice do you have for choosing a location? What is some advice on saving money on property? What are some ways I could save money on initial investment? What things should I not cheap out on for initial investment? What financial qualifications are needed for such an big loan? How long should I wait before hiring people to run the business for me? #architecture #real-estate #real-estate-investing #apartments #apartment #landlord #property-insurance #property-management #career-details
