I am a college freshman. When is the best time to apply for internships? What companies offer internships for programming?

College is a new chapter in my life and don't know where to start. My college goals is to go to a four year school for pharmacy. Is it a good path to go down? What do other students feels once they start down this path?

I am sure i want to be a nurse, but i have heard so many comments on it being a hard path, however I haven't heard how they made it easier for themselves or overcame it.
