When feeling discouraged, how do you find a way to motivate and inspire yourself?

I am a high school junior and a college sophomore. I have spent many hours looking at how I can transfer my college credits to other colleges and find scholarships to help pay for college. After looking at many scholarships, emailing schools, trying to find references, I feel I might not complete as many goals as I want to. In addition, I'm looking for ways to help build a strong portfolio to submit it with college applications. I'm finding it difficult to motivate and inspire myself to complete my goals. #art #graphic-design #college #college-advice #multimedia #artist-portfolio #scholarships

Should I transfer schools? [College transfer]

Hello CareerVillage community! I'm currently a college student in my second year. I'm about to complete my fourth semester at my public school, where I'm pursuing a BFA in Studio Art, concentration in Graphic Design. I just declared my major as Graphic Design, but the program that I am in is lacking in many, many ways. It's not rigorous enough for me, and I feel like it's not challenging enough for me. My university is definitely not known for this major. I did want to transfer out in my first year, and planned on transferring out after making a portfolio, but I stayed for the friends I made and the communities I became a part of. But with the major that I'm in, it's a bit of a tricky situation. Should I be looking to transfer to more professional art schools? I do feel confident enough in my ability, but I have no portfolio. It's too late to make one, and I don't have time to apply as a junior transfer. It's a bit of a pickle. I know it's late, but I really didn't want to leave my school right now, but after spending a semester in upper-level Graphic Design courses, I'm seeing how awful the program is. Should I stick to my college right now, in a very lacking BFA program, or attempt to transfer to a more expensive school and wait a year to apply? I'm conflicted. Thank you in advance! tags: #art #graphic-design #college-transfer #art-school #fine-art #transfer

As a senior in high school taking #graphic-design, at times making thumbnail sketches seems monotonous and time consuming. In the "real world", I assume it is emphasized.

Going into the graphic design field, is it better to be an expert in one design area or be a beginner in all design areas?

Going into the graphic design industry, I want to better understand if I want to be hired if I should focus on one aspect of design to improve my skills or try all areas of design but not further improving past beginner stage. For companies hiring, who would they hire in this situation: the one who's an expert in one area, but not in everything or the one who isn't an expert in one area, but knows beginner expertise in all areas? #graphic-design #graphic-designer

Art is something that I enjoy, but I keep getting the impression that an artists live off ramen noodles and paint water. Concept art, graphic design, and traditional art are what interest me most. I'm Very Good At Art And Await To Become A Professional. Any advice?

When I was 8-years-old I had to enter a picture or painting in an art contest. After a few days I had finished a picture of my cat, Catniss(I had a chose of 8 other cats but I went with her). My mom told me it looked exactly like her. I asked other people too if it looked like a real cat and they said yes. So I entered that into the art contest and won 1st place. I still have that skill and I'm trying to improve it and would like to use that skill in my career. #artist #drawing-and-painting skills #animal-lover #art #fine-art #graphic-design P.S. I have exactly 25 pets total.

What types of careers need artistic ability?

I am currently a sophomore in high school and I have no idea what I want to do in the future. Preferably, I would like to work in a field that is art related but I am intimidated by that idea because I've been told that this type of career is risky and the pay isn't very high. However, I heard that careers that combine science and art is much better than art alone. I keep on debating what types of careers and majors I would like to do, such as marketing, graphic design, possibly teaching, engineering, etc. #art #artist #engineer #engineering #science #design #graphic-design

I'm a graphic designer, but I can't draw. Will this hurt me?

I'm a graphic designer (think layouts, typography graphics, and aesthetic designs) but I've never been able to draw. Seeing as that's a big part of designing, will this hurt me in a real world setting? Might be important to note that I do actually also have a background in photography, so I could take original images, just can't draw. #graphicdesign #graphics #illustration #digital-illustration #graphic-design
