How do you become closer to your professor?

A lot of people advise getting closer to your professor better because they can help in many different ways in the future- whether it be recommendations or possible internship opportunities. What are some ways to become closer? I seem to have difficulty finding topics to talk about with them that are respectable, but also not only about school. #professors #relations #university #JULY20

Are criminal justice classes similar to criminology?

I am interested in becoming a criminal intelligence analyst and currently, I am a sociology major. My question is how do I find tech companies who are hiring non-residents?

My major is computer science and I’m an international student. After graduation we can apply to work for a year as a part of practical training. But I’m worried about my career after that because my one work permit will expire and can’t be renewed since I’m a non-resident of US. I have to find a company who can sponsor H1 visa so that I could continue my work. There are millions of international students, permanent residents/citizens of US, people with greater work experiences applying at the same time as me. My question is how do I find tech companies who are hiring non-residents? How do I stand out among those huge mass people? #technology #computer-science #international-student #JULY20

I've heard that the colleges we attend affect the hiring process when we graduate. How do I tackle this problem?

I’ve recently graduated from LaGuardia Community College with AS in Computer Science and I’m applied to transfer to 4 different CUNY universities. Many people tend to go to big and renowned universities like MIT, Harvard and many more. How do I get a leg up if I didn't attend one of these big name schools? #college #JULY20

What is the best way to organize school supplies for multiple classes?

I want to make it easier to remember and easily access my papers and materials for multiple classes. I have tried using binders for each class, as well as one binder for all of my classes. Is there a productive way to organize my stuff to be convenient and helpful? I will have around 8-10 different classes. Each will likely need a place to keep homework, course material, and notes. Thanks! #JULY20

How do I prepare myself for the job searching world after college while in college?

From what I understand, job searching is hard, time consuming, and takes a lot of emotional patience. Finding a job, applying to the job, waiting for an interview, having the interview, waiting for a response, getting the response, (if accepted) waiting till you start, (if rejected) restarting the entire process. How do I not only prepare for this but cut down the time, effort, or frustration it would take if I started job searching blindly? #jobs #job #first-job #job-search #career-counseling #career-paths #july20

How do I know I have found the right career?

When I ask people how they knew that their current career was the right one for them they usually answer with "you just know" or "I'm happy" or "it just feel right". In a general sense I understand that but since I have not experienced it I am questioning if the vagueness of *just knowing*. What if I don't know? I'm not working yet (since I'm a confused college student) so how can I know I will be happy in that job? #career-counseling #career-development #job #career-paths #career-finding #july20

How do I find the right career to aspire to?

Hello, I'm currently a Communication major, minoring in psychology. I don't know what what my career goal is at the moment. I'm really open with the options people have recommended for me but I don't know what would be the right fit for me. I can see myself in in many different job positions so I'm very conflicted. How can I, at the very least, narrow down my options if I can't figure it out a specific job? #career-counseling #career-paths #july20 #jobs

What made you start your own private practice, and how did you go about it?

I am an aspiring clinical psychologist and have been doing research on private practice. I've read on how it gives you more freedom in setting your own hours, more control of your clients, and more independence as a business. I've also read on how it requires alot of your own resources, required you to network to find clients, and increases the management need for documentation with insurance companies. I'm just curious as to hearing about what made you start your own private practice (did you want more freedom? Didn't want to climb up a corporate ladder? Wanted more client focus? etc.), how you went about it, and what the experience has been like for you. Perhaps I may even start or not start my own once I become licensed in about 4 years. #business #career #clients #clinicalpsychology #clinicalpsychologists #entrepreneur #experience #JULY20 #therapist #therapy #privatepractice #psychology #psychologists #startup #startupbusiness

What is one lie that you wish to dismiss about graduate school and the grad student experience?

I recently earned my bachelor's and will be starting a doctoral program in August. I've been hearing rumors left and right about grad school in general. They range from dissertations being a mandatory 200 pages, how you have to say goodbye to your social life, how grad students have the same employability rate as undergraduate students, and many more. I'm just curious as to what lies you were told about grad school, and if you could dismiss them for the general public. #college #collegerumors #grad #gradlife #gradlies #gradschool #gradschoolrumors #gradstudent #gradstudentrumrs #JULY20 #lies #school #schoolrumors

Classes I enjoy or classes colleges care about?

Besides the core classes and classes I need to fulfill requirements, I have opportunities to take courses I am really interested in, but aren't truly related to paths I may be taking in college and beyond. For example, I will likely go into a science field, yet would love to take ceramics. I will probably take it anyways because I can't plan my future down to the detail and can't totally depend on pursuing science just yet. However, I am interested if it is even worth a worry over- do colleges care at all, or do they just want students to do what interests them, even if it means a class that isn't necessary? #college #july20

How influential is your dissertation or degree emphasis on your career employment?

I am about to start a doctoral program in clinical psychology. Everyone is telling me that an emphasis and dissertation focus on military veterans, can lead to a better practicum and internship placement with the VA, which apparently is on the higher earning spectrum in terms of clinical psychology careers. Can someone still get employed in this position if they put their dissertation and degree emphasis on a different topic? #clinicalpsychology #career #degree #dissertation #doctorate #doctoral #employmet #JULY20 #psychology

Dual Enrollment?

I have some opportunities to take dual enrollment in local colleges (as a high school student.) I took one course because I wanted to, and probably will take the course of action that interest me most, but what do colleges and employers think about it? I am not concerned about hurting my college transcript, as I study hard and wouldn't not take a class if I was interested but thought my grade would be low, rather, I am curious as to if this really has a greater impact. #college #JULY20 #high-school-students #student
