Elizabeth’s Career Stories

In layperson terms, what do you actually do at work?

I work for a community college as the Manager of Workforce Outreach. Fancy title - I know :) But my job is to find students interested in trade programs and professional development. As you may know, a two year or four year degree does not interest everyone. Whether it is for financial reasons, a passion to work with their hands, a change in career - some students (young and old) just want a program that will help them secure a job in a growing field. That is where I come in. Our school offers programs in cosmetology, automotive technology, advanced manufacturing, and HVAC/environmental control that are designed to make students certified and career ready upon graduation. What does this mean? In a nutshell, after a year a student will have the hands on experience, the soft skills training, and the certifications to go out into the work world!
