Is data analytics a big piece of the airline/aviation industry? What kinds of jobs are options for me?

My mom keeps telling me that I should get a job in analytics but I'm not even sure I know what that means in terms of the actual jobs I would get. Can you help me understand what exactly that is and what I would be doing in that kind of a role at Cathay Pacific? This question was posted by a CareerVillage administrator on behalf of the students of CareerVillage. #aviation #airline-industry #security #airport-security

How competitive are college homeland security programs?

The security of our nation is extremely important to me, and I am interested in studying homeland security in college. I get good grades, so I likely wont have too much trouble being accepted into a school. But I have heard that some degree programs are more competitive than others for admissions. #homeland-security #competition #programs #security #government #law-enforcement

Hiya! I'm a Job Corp student in Alaska, I'm looking to go into SPS (Security and Protection).?

Hiya! I'm a Job Corps student in Palmer, Alaska. I'm going into the trade SPS (Security and Protection). But I'm not sure if that's what I actually want to do with my life, I really love working with animals. I was wondering if there is anything I should expect going into this field of work. I am fairly new to this profession and don't know where to start once I'm out of this program, I need some advice on this, please. If anyone who worked/works in this profession could reach out and answer this that would be great! I need some advice on what to do.

How do you effectively choose between jobs if your're granted the opportunity to be hired at both?

This is still hypothetical for me personally because I have an interview for both companies on the same day next week. However, I am anxious about every aspect of this. I have already had my preliminary phone interview with both companies and I am a bit more confident with both. The best case scenario is being able to work both, but if that is not the case, how do you weigh out the pros and cons? Both jobs are really different (one is a security job at a hospital and the other is an entry level job at a marketing firm). #marketing #job #interviews #security #career-decisions

Do security pentesters work steady hours or are they basically freelance?

(I want to be transparent right up front: I'm not a student. I'm a staff member at CareerVillage.org. But I'm posting this question because although we have many questions related to #cybersecurity, we don't have this one, and I think our students would love to know the answer.) My question: Do professional pentesters* work steady 9-5 jobs for one company over a long period of time, or do they mostly freelance,** or do they have some other typical working arrangement? If the answer is "it depends", then could you share what you've seen as "the norm"? I'd be especially appreciative if you'd share whether you have experience in the industry. Thank you in advance! Notes for the students who will read this question: * Pentesters are cybersecurity experts who focus on gaining access to systems , sometimes called "white-hat hackers". ** Freelancing is working as a contractor on an hourly or project-based basis, usually for hours, days, or months at a time for a "client" (a company that will pay you for your time). It differs from being an employee in a couple of ways, but that's a topic for a different CareerVillage question :) #cybersecurity #it-security #security

What are these answers for my security trade?

Are you provided with non-lethal weapons when doing security? Can you take breaks when doing patrols for security while on the clock if needed? If you are doing patrols for unarmed security and someone trespasses the property and that person is armed and you aren't able to run or hide? Would there be a sign-on bonus for a certain company in security? Are the uniforms free or not when you are required to wear them for the job of security?
