Matching Nutrition and Psychology

I grew up in a little village called Alhuemilla, Chile. Growing up we almost never went to the store to buy food because we grew our own. Fruits and vegetables was always part of our diet. Because of this life style we never got sick from anything.I never went to a hospital. Coming to America I was shocked on how sick people are. Even young people suffer from chronic illness such as cancer, diabetics, and so many others. I know our health depends greatly on what we put in our bodies, the way we eat. This experience has inspired me to study nutrition( organic natural food) and psychology( counselling). However, I don't know how to do this. Do you know if there is a school that teaches nutrition and psychology from a more natural holistic view? What other avenues could I take to approach the are of nutrition and the mind? What program would be the best? Would Harvard, Stanford or John Hopkins University and other elites schools be good for what I want to do. Thank you for reading this. I know I have a lot questions. Have a great day. #neuroscience #nutrition #psychotherapy #medical-nutrition-therapy

What all do cognitive psychologists do?

I have liked psychology and been interested in it. I especially am interested in thinking and how people do it and why. However, i also like the way the biological portions of neurology come into play with the brain and how it works. So i am wondering what it is that cognitive psychologists do in contrast to cognitive neuroscience or neuroscientists in general. #science #psychology #biology #neuroscience #cognitive-psychology

What do neuroscientists actually do? What all are the different occupations in the field of neuroscience?

I have always been interested in the nervous system and the brain, as well as how they work and affect the way people act or behave. I am interested in the somewhat psychological portions of neuroscience but have always had trouble finding an occupation that really fits exactly what i have always dreamed of doing. #psychology #neuroscience #neurology #cognitive-psychology

How difficult is it to keep yourself from becoming emotionally drained as a psychologist?

I have always been an empath, and I love nothing more than to talk people through their problems and help in any way I can. Sometimes, though, I find myself almost "absorbing" the negative emotions and energies in the people I'm talking with. I want to become a professional psychologist, most likely a therapist with research side-work, and I'm wondering how others in this profession avoid becoming "drained" when they see emotionally troubled people all day long? This is what I want to do more than anything, but I want to ensure my own mental health as well. How do I achieve this work-life balance? #psychology #therapy #counseling #neuroscience #work-life-balance #mental-health #mental-health-counseling #empathy

As a woman hoping to enter the field of neuroscience, what are the best ways to combat the idea that cutting-edge STEM fields are better suited to men?

As a future psychologist, neuroscientist, and/or neurobiology researcher, I am concerned about the male-centric views surrounding STEM fields. As a feminist, though, I won't let this deter me. I am only wondering how other women studying and/or working in STEM, especially in psychology or neuroscience, deal with people/situations who try to challenge the increasing involvement of women in STEM. What are things that you can say to people, men or women, who ask why you chose STEM instead of a more "feminine" job? How do you inform people about the need for women in STEM? #psychology #biology #research #therapy #neuroscience #sexism #gender #neurobiology

What does a day in the life of a neuroscience researcher look like?

As my aspiration, I would like to request some information on what my future would look like. Is there the freedom to research topics of choice? Or do companies hire researchers to work on projects for them? If so, is there a way to get into your own lab for personal research? What were your topics for your post-doc work? And, how was the road to career from college? Was there a need for constant study, or could you actually have a bit of a social life outside of studies? Thank you #college-major #neuroscience #neurology

Is a double major in psychology and neuroscience worth it to get an edge on graduate school applications?

I am currently a freshman psychology major and I'm about to add a neuroscience double major because I think it might help me get into a better grad school. The problem is that I'm afraid that this double major might take time away that I could be using for internships/research, etc. It's possible graduate schools might have higher regards for these activities than for a double major, and I don't want to end up hindering myself. Do you recommend I keep the double major, or am I better off just focusing on gaining as much internship/research experience as possible? #psychology #internships #graduate-school #research #neuroscience #double-major #academic-advising #scheduling
