What should I know about a career in social work?

Hi :) I'm considering a career in social work and was wondering what a typical day in the life would look like. How much of it is based in technical aspects like answering emails or personal aspects like physically speaking to a client? What is something I should know if im considering a career in this field. Also is there any way that I could have a better chance at landing a well paying job out of uni? I've heard a lot of horror stories about how bad the pay is and have been trying to see how I can even that out. #spring24 Thank you in advance to whoever you are

Why did you or did you not take a gap year after completing your bachelor's in social work and what was your experience like with the choice you made? #Spring24

For those completing their bachelor's in social work, did you go straight to graduate school or did you take a gap year and why? I know it's a common dilemma but I'm mostly worried about finding a job so I'm thinking of going straight to grad school but I'm also worried about having to take out more loans. #Spring24

How could I possibly shadow or contribute to my mentoring?

I have found a mentor that is a professor and a social worker with her own practice. When we first met we discussed things I could do, such as research and just asking questions in general, one of her suggestions was to shadow, but we were both concerned about the ethical dilemmas that would form as I am a highschool student although I do dual psychology classes at college which technically made me a college student. Many college students shadow professionals in the mental health field because they are studying that field, would this make it more acceptable if I were to shadow my mentor while obviously following HIPAA laws, ethical concerns, and getting the patients okay.

Would a degree in Psychology or Social Work be for suitable for me if I am looking to counsel individuals and becoming a life coach?

I am in the process of transferring to a four year college, but I do not know which route to go. I've always had the passion to speak to people about their problems and find their true potential. Aside from counseling, I also have a dream of becoming a Life Coach. I know that both of these fields are closely related, but which was would be right for me? I am looking a for a field that will allow me to unleash my passion to its maximum potential. #psychology #social-work #life-coach

How does the relationship between clients and social workers change over time?

I'm a senior in highschool and I've been interested in social work for quite some time. So far, I understand the general idea about what social workers do: help people with their emotional, familial, or even physical dilemmas. Also, I have the impression that social workers remain in an office all day and conduct their work there. However, I've been very curious about the initial reaction clients have towards their social worker when they begin to share their "personal stories." Are they hesitant or even unwilling to communicate with their social worker? How does the relationship change over time? I would appreciate your feedback and insight about this question. Thanks! #social-work

After you graduate from college with a major in psychology, what are some some steps that you can take in order to get a job as a mental health/ substance abuse social worker?

Hi I am Grace, I am currently a sophomore in high school but I am very interested in this field of study. I just wanted to know some steps that it takes to actually become a social worker because a lot of people go to college to major in psychology but never put it to use. So it is a waste of time to go study and major in something that you are not going to pursue. I wanted to make sure I know what to do after I get the degree and where to find a job like that. Anyways thank you for taking your time to answer my question. #psychology #social-work #mental-health-counseling

What careers can I fulfill that will combine my interest in both becoming a veterinarian and also a social worker?

Hello, my name is Chantel, and I am currently a senior. I will be starting my first year in college in Franklin and Marshall next fall, and I desire in becoming a social worker and a veterinarian for years though I have been receiving some disapproval in just choosing one career since both are time consuming. I grew in my interest after learning about children who are going through social and economic problems in developing countries and also animals who are inhumanely treated in factories. These interests are a bit different from each other, but I want know how I can partake in both in life, and even intertwined them both after college. #veterinarian #social-work

What should I major in if I want to work in a field that allows me to raise public awareness for environmental issues?

So far I have completed two years of community college credit towards a degree in Psychology. However, I am unsure about my choice to major in psychology based on the job market and amount of schooling required to get a job. Recently I began reading about environmental issues such as our overuse of plastic (that keeps being created but cannot be destroyed and is killing our coral reefs), the addition of BPA to multiple items including receipt papers (even though research believes it causes health issues), the addition of unsafe chemicals to our food, and the overconsumption of sugar in our society. I feel passionately about issues such as those listed above, and would like to work on a team of people that would try to fight big corporations, encourage people to sign petitions, and raise awareness in general for healthier eco-friendly living. #psychology #social-work #social #environmental #environment

What is the most benificial college for a psychology degree? Also, what degree is the most benificial?

I'm trying to choose a degree in psychology. I am not sure if it would be better to get a higher degree and do more schooling or just an average degree with less schoolling. Also, I am not sure what college would be the best for this degree. I've heard a lot of good news with Wisconsin and Illinios colleges, but am still not sure. Questions that will lead me to the answer could be the following: Is it close to Ilinios? How far away is it? Is it affordable for an average income family? Can I stay there without transferring to get my degree? Is the area safe? Is it private or public? Can I easily bike to get groceries or other things? Is the college not huge, but not too small? and... Will I be able to keep myself busy in my freetime? #psychology #social-work #counselor #therapy #psychiatry #counselling #mental-health #therapists

What are the best steps to take as someone who would like to pursue both social work and animation?

I plan to finish college with at least a bachelor's in animation, but possibly a masters! This would mean I would probably have to double major. I'd like to do this at UGA, UNG, or maybe Breanau here in Georgia. This has been my plan for quite some time, however, if there are better options for me I'm more than willing to hear it. #social-work #art #art-school #double-major #georgia #animation #LSW #career
