I want to be helpful in assisting people to accomplish their dreams and goals, I'm having a difficult time deciding which industry (housing, addiction, elderly, etc.) to go into, any answers or suggestions?

I have always dreamed of getting my degree and being able to get into the social service field. I am not sure what industry to head towards, my hope is to get some feedback in many different areas by professionals in their field. I want to help people achieve their dreams and goals, I am very good at motivating and feeling a persons sense of motivation and determination. I want to perhaps be a personal cheerleader, or possibly someone that can protect those that haven't the means of advocating for themselves, such as a social service person for abused kids. There are so many options of places that can use the help of others. I would love to hear some feedback from some of these professionals and in turn may help me to make a better decision on my goals in my success through college. I am so excited to finally be working on my bachelors in behavioral science. All feedback is welcomed and appreciated. #bachelors-degree #nonprofits #and #oneyearexperience

I'm founding a startup, but I'm not sure if I want it to be a nonprofit, not-for-profit, or for-profit. Should I figure this out before registering as a business?

I'm based in New York State, and I'm planning to hire a lawyer to do the paperwork. But I don't want to do any fundraising until I have a bank account (which requires an EIN). Do I need to decide on a profit model before registering? Any advice is helpful - I'm new to the startup world!

How would I go about getting a job in nonprofit development?

As a political science major, my education is pretty broad. My dream job would be in development for a human rights or international nonprofit organization, but I am unsure how to get experience in that field to be able to apply for jobs. I have heard that joining the Peace Corps is really the only way to get involved with that and I was also wondering if that was true. #organization #nonprofits #ngos #international-ngos

How do I get information on different programs and clubs outside of school?

Recently, I have learned about different programs that are offered to students in my community, that I have never heard of before, until now. With this realization, I'd like to know how to be able to get informed if there are other programs or clubs that I'd be able to participate in. Not only that, but I'd like to know who I should be asking and talking to in order to get accepted into a good university. #communications #community #community-outreach #programs #clubs #student-activities #nonprofits

What are the best business models for building a dynamic and scalable non-profit

Since 2003, I've provided financial planning services to Indian tribes, advising on both personal and tribal policies such as budgets, taxation, risk management (insurance), investments and legacy (estate) planning. In my professional experience, clients who stayed with me were able to improve their credit, get out of debt and start saving for a home or start a business. My vision for the Native Finance Development Corporation, 501(c)3, is to use a generalist in-person at each tribe to gather information from clients and have a subject expert via teleconference to resolve the issues. Then, on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis, my team will provide coaching to support healthy spending habits and develop vital tribal economy. My goal is to create an organization that can support and distribute these services across Indian Country. Any suggestions for intermediate-paid jobs relating to social welfare/NGOs?

I'm recently graduated and thought about applying jobs in Americorps, however, I heard that their jobs are very low-paid. I do not expect myself getting a high paid job right after I graduated from college as it is unrealistic, but I do hope to find a job that is intermediate-paid so that I can be financially independent and at least support my livelihood. What are some entry level options for me to look into if I'm interested in NGO-related work and that has normal salary? #career #job-search #first-job #nonprofits #ngos #organizational-culture #financial-planning #career-details

How to have a board that can attract $500,000 capital for a non-profit start up

I've been accepted at Harvard's joint bachelor's and master's program in management for the summer of 2018. Since 2003, I've had a financial planning practice with Indian Tribes. My goal at Harvard is to learn best practices, so I can transition my practice into a sustainable and scalable non-profit organization, the Native Finance Development Corporation, for Indian Country. When funded, I will develop an online and in-person platform to provide financial education, debt resolution, savings and affordable loans to the tribal communities. Initially, I intend to leverage my relationship with existing client tribes. I've already submitted for establishment of my 401(c)3 with the IRS. In early March, 2018, I applied for certification as a Native American Community Development Finance Institution. I have a business plan. Over the next four years, I will attend Harvard full-time while developing the IT and human resources and training aspects of the non-profit. What would be the most effective and efficient way to develop this board? #business #business-development #nonprofits

How do I create my own internship opportunity?

This summer I want to pursue an internship in government or nonprofits. In my local area there aren't a lot of opportunities for me, a first year college student. What would be the best way to approach some of the places and people I am interested in working with to create my own internship experience? Would I draft my own idea of what I would be doing first, or would that step come after reaching out to the different offices and organizations that I am interested in working with? #internships #government #nonprofits #experience #social-work #civic-and-social-organization #community-outreach

What is the career path to working in politics? Politics seems really broad--working in government, working for companies or nonprofits that work with government--and I am a bit confused by the different options.
