What is the gender gap like in upper level sciences, first hand?

I am a female, high school senior considering a career path in upper level mathematics, academia and research. I am very concerned with underrepresentation of women and I would like to know of any first hand experiences. Researching online I find a lot of statistics, but I would like more. On average, how expensive is pursuing a PhD?

I am really interested in pursuing higher education and excited for the possibility of completing such a high level of study. My concern is that it most likely will not be an affordable course of action; which might barre me from pursuing education at that level. Is there any way to make that process more affordable without working three jobs and attending school full time? #higher-education #PhD #college #affordability

Is pursuing a master's degree or higher worth it?

I currently pursuing my Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, and I originally was going to pursue a master's and a Ph.D. after its completion. However, in speaking to advisors, classmates and a couple of individuals in related fields, I have become hesitant about my original plan. With all the issues currently going on with graduate programs, and being told that some of the jobs I have interest in do not require higher than what I am pursuing, I am asking if I still should apply for them? And, if it would actually do me good, even if I become over-qualified. Thank you! #graduate-school #environmental-science #masters-degree #phd #higher-education

Should I stay or should I go?

I am a junior in college studying psychology. I plan to go to graduate school to attain a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. I have heard people say that it is very difficult to get into clinical psychology programs as a student right out of college because they want their students to have some experience in the field (i.e. research, clinical experience, etc.) Is this true? What do professionals in the field advise I do? In other words should I take a chance and apply to graduate schools right out of college or should I wait 1-2 years and gain that extra "experience" it seems people are saying I should have? #Graduateschool #phd #psychology #clinical-psychology #research

How crucial is the choice of the thesis vs. non-thesis option in the Master's degree?

I am a graduate student in Electrical Engineering who opted for the non-thesis option in order to avoid the uncertainty of the time of graduation that is associated with the thesis option. However, I am also planning to pursue a PhD in the future and I have heard how not choosing the thesis option could hinder me from being accepted in the PhD program that I want. Your input will be very much appreciated as I am feeling worried that I made the wrong choice. #engineering #engineer #mechanical-engineering #computer-engineering #electrical-engineering #software-engineering #phd #science-phd
