How much weight should students place on the geographic location of their school?

Over the past five years many industries (tech in particular) seems to have concentrated in a few places around the country. In particular, New York, Silicon Valley, Texas, and Seattle. How large of an advantage is it to go to school at a university that is located in one of these places? Should university rankings take potential direct connections to industry into account? #technology #developer #software #mobile-applications #urban

Is it worth it to go to get a traditional degree if you are interested in getting into software development or software engineering?

It seems as though more an more influential people in the tech field are showing support to online studies as a legitimate replacement to traditional studies. Is it still worth it to go into debt in order to finance a degree that may be 5-10 years behind 'groundbreaking' concepts? #technology #software #tech #future #scholarships

If medicine improves and allows people to live much longer lives, how will we provide for everyone?

As medical technology improves, people live longer, healthier lives. Anti-aging technologies are getting better and better. If people start regularly living to 100 or longer, or if human life is extended even further beyond natural limits, how we provide for everyone? How will people in my generation flourish if people currently in their 20s 30s, 40s, and 50s never retire, and keep working indefinitely? How will my generation support and care for a massive population of elderly people? #technology #future #medicine #career

If many jobs in the future (perhaps MOST jobs) will be replaced by machines and Artificial Intelligence, what should we be studying in college?

I read Kurt Vonnegut's "Player Piano" as well as several of his short stories that depict a future in which all "jobs" have been eliminated - machines do everything. The people who have meaningful work find their life has less meaning. They ask, "What are humans FOR?" So, I wonder what students should be studying now to prepare for a future in which many jobs we take for granted - from Uber Driver to Accountant to Teacher to Doctor - could be replaced by a more efficient, lower-cost computer. #future-careers #future #creativity #job #job-search #job-coaching #technology

Computer science vs Cybersecurity BS?

My school offers a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Cybersecurity. No specializations, they are their own separate BS degrees. They offer similar classes in the beginning, but then change and become more focused near the end. I am wanting to know, if anyone knows, what each field is like? For reference, I have always loved NASA since I was a child and have wanted to work for them, but I have also dreamed of working for a 3 letter agency. I have lived near DC and NSA, so I know the area where Cyber would be great, but I am also from Florida and wouldn’t mind living on the east coast, working at Kennedy Space Center (lol). I am having a rough time with this and have spoken to counselors, but I am wanting to hear from real people in these professions, if possible. #cybersecurity #compsci #computerscience #technology #cyber #cybersec #infosec #cyber-security

How do I gain and maintain respect and attention as a leader?

I'm currently the Head of Marketing on my school's robotics team, and I get a lot of disrespect from my peers, due to lack of interest in marketing, the fact that I'm smaller and younger than everyone else, that I am one of the five-ish girls on a 40+ person team, and the fact that due to my marketing duties, I don't have time to work on build or engineering, which is the one thing that garners respect on the team, and most likely a multitude of other reasons. How do I become more than labels and appearances? How do I get people to listen and do their tasks? #womeninstem #technology #marketing #women-in-leadership

Can someone offer me some insight into Management Information Systems (MIS)?

I was looking at some possible fields that I want to major in and MIS seemed very compelling. I heard it's a mix of technology and business and wanted to learn some more about it. Could someone tell me what exactly a person in the field might do with an MIS degree? Also, which areas would MIS focus on (perhaps math, science, technology, communication)? Any additional information would be graciously appreciated! #mis #information-technology #technology

For computer scientists, what does your work day look like, how does it impact other fields and the environment, and what were some education?

Hello I was wondering if someone could answer some questions I have for a school assignment pertaining to post-secondary opportunities in the field of computer science. I would really appreciate it if someone provided some answers to the following questions: -What does a typical day look like for you? -How do you believe their field of work impacts the environment (i.e. e-waste generation, lowering usage of resources, etc.)? What about other industries? -What schooling did they complete in order to do your job? Were there any special skills you needed? Once again I would really appreciate it if you answered these questions. Thank you in advance #technology #computer-science #computer-software #information-technology
