Should high school students be focused on doing extracurricular activities based off of what they would want to major in college?

I have a friend who really wants to become a doctor, and almost all her extracurricular activities are tied around medicine. She did a medical program in Harvard, volunteers at a hospital, etc. Would she have a better chance of getting in somewhere because she knows what she wants and is doing activities based around it? I'm halfway through the tenth grade and still don't know what I want to pursue. How will this affect students that apply in an increasingly competitive race to be admitted into a well-rounded university? #career #university #career-counseling #career-choice #career-path #volunteering #extracurriculars #university-applications

When applying to universities, the people at admissions always enjoy reading unconventional essays. How does one know that what they are writing fits this criteria?

I've been watching many interviews and videos about how the people at the admissions department enjoy unique essays as well as students who believe their essays are what really helped them get into the university. How can you make sure that one is writing something on the flamboyant side? #college #university #college-admissions #college-bound #college-recruiting #university-applications #college-essay #university-recruiting

What are some good extracurriculars to commit to?

I know that I need to start on something from now to spice up my university applications but there are a few problems. First of all, my parents are on a very limited budget so I need to be able to do something that isn't too expensive. Second, sports aren't my thing so the obvious answer is out. If anyone here could help me out that would be great. #high-school #extracurriculars #university-applications

How important are extracurriculars for admissions in CS in Pakistan, and for Master's abroad, and how do I find extracurriculars with limited opportunities and freedom ?

I feel really overwhelmed by how to find notable extracurricular activities, especially since I am a girl living in Pakistan and have limited freedom as well as limited money. I don't know where to even start to find internships, extracurriculars etc and my college does not offer anything. I want to know how to build a solid application for undergrad in Pakistan, if extracurriculars are important for universities such as NUST and NED, and how to find opportunities in order to apply for Master's abroad.

Can I work on independent research while not being a high school student?

My country’s academic system is different than the US. So, I have already graduated and I’m 18 still not in university, but I really want to do an independent research project and try to get it published somewhere. Is it possible or legitimate for me to do it on my own without teachers or help and use this project as an activity for my college application? It’s actually a passion project and not to make my application look good, however, I have seen that most of these are done with mentors and such and I don’t have one available and I am unsure on where and how I could find one. I wouldn’t need a lab because it’s for a psychology social research, I would just need people to answer a few questions I would formulate on a form and I would go from there.

What is the first step I can take if I have decided that I will take my chances and apply to Stanford the following year?

I am a rising junior in my high school and I know that it is a really long shot that I could ever end up going there. However, I like to have a little faith that I can apply and hope that the college admissions office over there accepts me. I do not even know what to do now though. I take the PSAT's in less than three weeks so I am guessing that should help me out a lot depending on my score obviously. I was just wondering what to do now with this mindset that I am taking my chances and apply over there. I really like the robotics club they have over there and I would love to be in that club. I am pretty sure I would major in mechanical engineering over there if that helps. I have other options too, so even if I do not get in, I know that I will have other chances to pursue mechanical engineering. I just want to know other people's thoughts on the matter of applying to Stanford University. #college #stanford #college-admissions #college-selection #university-applications #engineering

What do collages look for on your application?

Currently, I am interested in understanding the key factors that colleges prioritize when evaluating applications. Specifically, I would like to gain insights into which academic courses, extracurricular activities, and club involvements are considered significant. I believe it is important to proactively plan for my future success, hence my inquiry. While I am already engaged in a number of clubs and enrolled in a high-level math class, I am eager to explore additional opportunities that will maximize my chances of admission to the college of my choice.
