What is the difference in having volunteer work or paid job experience - besides the factor of money - in applying for a non-temporary job/career-related job?

I am debating whether to volunteer frequently, which would be easier to do over the summer before I go off to school, or to apply for jobs in my area, which I will have to quit before I leave. #career #resume #volunteering #college-jobs #employment #volunteer #job-applications

What kind do employers look for in students that are fresh out of college?

Next fall I am going to college and I want to know what types of activities or goals that I should pursue to make my self a better candidate when I graduate and start looking for a job in my field. I know that I should obviously do well academically and get some work experience, but I want to know if there is anything else I could do to make my resume more appealing to employers. How to naturally navigate a conversation with employers during career fair?

I have attended my first career fair as a freshman last fall. I prepared myself by searching about the main firms that I am interested in. However, after introducing myself, I was struggling to naturally ask questions about the company like their stocks and current events that I have researched about. The whole experience was a bit awkward and disappointing. Thus, for this spring's career fair, I hope to be better prepared. Do you have any tips to be less awkward and have a flowing conversation with employers? #career-counseling #communications #career-development #employment #career-advice

Optometry vs. Ophthalmology- Should I be worried that the MDs will take over the ODs?

I am interested in pursuing Optometry, which means I would need to take the OAT, and go into Optometry school. However, if you go through with Medical school, and the MCAT, one could become an Ophthalmologist. I don't want to begin following the Optometry route if the MDs could take over the jobs, leaving me with nothing. I understand that an MD can perform surgery as well as the general check-ups, which is why I am hesitant seeing as they can do more than the Optometrist (except for those few cases if you get your TPG, TPL, or TLG attached to your license). Should I worried? Should I just go through with medical school and become an Ophthalmologist instead? #medicine #healthcare #employment #optometry #ophthalmologist #optometrist
