I have no work experience! How can I acquire a job?

It's time to pull my own weight, yikes! Recently I applied to various famous franchises online, the only problem is, they never responded :( . With no success online I decided to visit a "now hiring" good ol' McD's and ask for an application. I completed the application and returned it to a manager. After waiting for a couple weeks, still no response. I even went back to the McDonald's, gave them a hello, and "showed initiative" as my mom suggested. Still without response I feel quite discouraged (a big no no in the job hunting process). I've been told getting a minimum wage job for a kid like me would not require a resume, but I feel like it may be necessary to create one in order to land a job since I have no work experience (but plenty of volunteerism and extra curricular commitment!). Any tips for creating a resume? Whats the best way to go about landing a job? How did *you* land your first job? #resume #hiring #first-job

When you're fresh out of college is it best to work for a while, travel, or go straight to Grad school?

I'm curious about the current state of the job market as it pertains to the hiring rate of students fresh out of college with their first Bachelor's degree. Do most employers favor new grads who've worked while in school? If so, how do students who have little work experience due to being committed full-time to their education go out and get jobs after graduating? Also, from the perspective of grad schools, do they prefer students fresh out of undergrad or is it best to work for a year or two before applying to grad schools so your resume is more substantial? Do they care about your resume or just your academic track record? #graduate-school #college-admissions #job-search #college-jobs #recruiting #hiring #employment #job-market #job-application

What are the essential skills you need to possess when on the search for a job/career. How would I develop and practice these skills as a high school student?

Many have started their job/career lives during high school, whether it be a summer job or necessary part-time work during the school year. Many high school students have also gone out to look for a job, but have come back without a single "You're hired!". I would like to know if there are certain skills that would help you knock out that interview or keep an employer interested in you. Of course certain skills aren't easily obtained and will unfold through practice and use. How would I be able to gain these skills as a high school student? #high-school #hiring #student-counseling #interviewing-skills #student-development #communication-skills

What's a better plan after graduating: find a job or a paid internship?

In the field I want to go into, experience is key. My thought is that I might set myself up better for a job down the road if I take a paid internship to really learn the ropes. But it could be just as beneficial to find a job that will train me as I go! #internships #hiring

How do I, as a high schooler, figure out exactly what I'm interested in career wise?

All my life, I've always wanted to go into medicine, but recently I've been having doubts as 10 years of medical school sounds daunting and expensive. I'm trying to look for more options and see if medicine truly is the path for me so I'm taking a lot of experimental classes such as computer science, graphic design, medical interventions, and psychology...and I love all of them. I truly just love learning about all of them. Now I'm even more confused and I want to try to get some sort of experience in each field this year so that I can figure out what I like and have a game plan when I get to college, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that. I'm already volunteering at a hospital but how can I experience work as a graphic designer or a computer scientist as a 15 year old with very little experience? #computer-science #medicine #psychology #college-major #graphic-design #volunteering #hiring

What are the top 3 mistakes applicants make?

As a student I've send out many applications, whether it was for an internship, job or for enrolling into a school. There have been more times where I got rejected than being accepted. It always made me wonder, 'did the other applicants have better grades or awards?' or 'did I just not fit their description?'. If you have reviewed applicants or interviewed someone before, please tell me your stories and tell me what made them a good or bad applicant. Can't wait to hear them :) #college-admissions #hiring #admissions #job-interview #creative-internship
