What are the different types of jobs in architecture? I think I want to become an architect but I don't know enough to make the decision.
I want to get a degree in architecture. Im not sure if architecture is the best route. I'm not sure exactly what an architect does. I like working with my hands. I like designing. I like problem solving. I was a carpenter for a year, and a mechanic before that. Im lost in the details. Drafting, designing and building all sound very appealing to me. I'm just not sure what routes and possibilities are on the path.
I am interested in running my own excavation/ landscaping/ construction business. I work best in an environment with management, time flexibility, and variety.

Where are the best places to find a job in residential architecture?
I would like to have connections in the field when I go to school and I think it would be helpful to go to a school near where I want to work so that I can have community connections. I don't know where I want to live yet but I think living somewhere where I can find a great job is a good place to start.
What is the best way to find merit-based scholarships?
I am thinking of going out of state for college because I like the architecture program set up at Virginia Tech, compared to in-state schools. I fall outside of the financial aid category for college but out-of-state tuition is still costly and I would like to know where to find more merit-based scholarships to help offset the cost of out-of-state tuition.
Do civil engineers enjoy their job?
Is it also worth majoring in civil engineering if you want to major in engineering as it pays a lot less than the other choices? I want to do architecture based building with homes and residential properties, but some people have said civil engineering is a better pathway to get to this although I have also heard that civil engineering can tend to be very boring and people end up building a lot of boring infrastructures like bridges, roads, and hangers. What do you think?
