Which A-levels should I choose for medicine?
My GCSEs are almost done with and I have to choose my A-levels soon. I've already decided on taking biology and chemistry for my first two options, and maybe psychology as a third option because I think it's related to medicine and can help me. My fourth option is giving me quite a bit of a headache as I can't choose between physics, English and history. I'm quite good at English and perform very well, and while History is tough it is enjoyable. However, I've researched online and most websites say that universities prefer physics or maths alongside biology and chemistry, and this is a dilemma because I don't really enjoy doing physics. Certain universities also prefer a humanities subject or an essay subject to show how well rounded the applicant is, and I really don't know which subject universities would like more. Should I pursue a senior project that exposes me to a new area of physics or one that is more in line with what I believe I'll want to do as a career?
Currently, I don't have a clear idea as to what I want to do after graduation. I'll definitely apply to PhD programs, but I don't know what field I want to specialize in. Right now I'm most interested in optics, laser physics, and math. For my senior project, I'm tasked with choosing a research advisor I'll work with for my final year of undergrad. The first professor is amazing. We have a great relationship, and I know I'll have an excellent experience working with him. His project deals with a field I'm interested in but don't have experience with. We would work with nanomaterials and fabrication - a lot of hands on lab skills. The other professor seems super cool. I don't know him at all, but his project deals with optics, lasers, and orbital mechanics. He's also working in collaborations with aerospace companies I'm interested in. I'm learning toward the first prof because chemistry with your advisor is so important since you'll be working with them for a whole year. I'll also be taking electives and labs in optics next year so it's not like I'll be missing out on the material. And at the end of the day, I think exploring options is the goal of the undergrad experience. Should I take up astronomy
I have been thinking about joining the STEM community through Astronomy and Physics as a future career. From what I have heard It is a very competitive and difficult career to get. Being a scientist has been a recurring passion. It wasn't until a few days ago I have actually considered taking it up as a career. I have been doing lots of research about taking it up as a job, I even have asked some experts online about it. But then i got one response that said “if you are asking this question then you are probably not perfect for the job.” I have been debating with myself if this is a true statement. I have never been great at math even though i find some parts of it interesting, and I haven’t took physics yet. I feel like if I told people that knew me that I want to take this career they would laugh and tell me that there is no way I would succeed. I noticed when I am interested in something school related i do very well in it.
