How does applying to colleges with an undecided major versus a decided major differ in the ways they will affect your future?

As a senior in high school, I am in the midst of preparing for the next stop on the long and winding journey we call life. Every turn I take and every decision I make leads me down a different path and I'll admit it, it intimidates me. Even after a ton of research and experimenting, it is hard to settle on one thing that I will be devoting a lot of time and attention to in the next couple of years (and for most of my life). Whenever I discover a profession that somewhat appeals to me, it's like the universe doesn't want my heart to settle on it. Either the field of study is extremely scarce among the colleges I am interested in, it doesn't fit into the lifestyle I am looking for, or I would have to complete additional graduate studies. I always thought that applying to colleges with a decided major will foster a higher acceptance rate to that college, but I don't want to make the wrong move. Having a definite major would allow me to complete the program's prerequisites quickly, but if I go undecided, I feel like I am wasting my time taking classes that wouldn't really benefit me. What are the benefits of each type of admission? What are the drawbacks? #undecided #decided #college #college-admissions #college-selection #college-major #life

Whether I should go to a better college to be able to teach at a university?

I've been told that I might have better luck getting a teaching position at a school like Virginia Tech (where I live) if I go to a school like Harvard. However, I want to teach English/History which is not Virginia Tech's focus at all, it being an engineering and agriculture school. Do I still need to go to a prestigious/"better" school to get a good job teaching? #teaching #professor #college-selection

Does commuting strip a person of their college experience?

My sister who is a dormer has always lamented to me how important it is to dorm and move away from home. She emphasized on the key phrase "college experience." Instead of listening to her, I am opting to commute because of the internships available for my major in the city. I am wondering if commuting will undermine my college experience as well as development of skills like independence. #college #college-admissions #college-bound #college-selection #college-advice

What do college admission officers expect to see from an essay?

In my 3rd year English class, my teacher has been focusing on college essays for quite a while. My teacher however, doesn't focus specifically on the format or layout. Does where you go to college really matter? Is money an actual valid reason for giving up your top choice school?

I have the chance to go to a decent school with a good program for free plus room and board grants, and they are also guaranteeing me a spot in their graduate school. However, I feel that the school is not for me. I feel uncomfortable and claustrophobic there, and I don't feel any connection to the school or as if I belong. My other option is to go to my top choice school. I am absolutely in love with the place, their program, everything. It feels like home. However, I am not guaranteed a spot in their highly competitive grad school, and I would have to pay out of state tuition. #college #college-admissions #college-bound #college-selection #college-recruiting

Should I go to a more expensive, prestigious school for the experience and opportunities, or take a more affordable route so that I will have less financial burden in the future?

I got accepted to UCLA, however, I am wondering if it is worthwhile to attend UCLA if it means that I will create more debt for myself in the future. I want the diversity, club organizations, experience, and research opportunities that it offers (I am an Undeclared- Life Sciences major at the moment), although I am not sure what I want to do for a career or exactly what major I want. I have many varying interests in completely different areas (such as acrobatics, dance, biology, theater), and I am hoping that by attending such a diverse university that I will be able to explore these interests and define what is best for me. But then again, the debt (*sigh*). I also realize that it will be more cutthroat at such a university, and therefore I will have to dedicate more time towards studying and possibly might not be able to fit all the things I want to do into my schedule. If I go to a more affordable school, I may not have the same opportunities as at UCLA or be around as driven students as myself. Also, IT'S UCLA!! What should I do?? #UCLA #affordablility #experience #undeclared #choosing-a-college #college-selection #college #college-advice

Do I have a realistic chance of making Notre Dame with the following credentials: 4.3 weighted GPA, 1450 SAT score, NHS member, founder of a volunteer program at my high school, varsity cross country runner and wrestler, no trouble in a year and a half?

If I have a good college in my hometown (MSU of Texas), should I get my bachelors degree there . And then try to go to my dream college for medical school , or should I do all of school at my hometown college. Or should I just try to go straight to my dream college , which is either Texas Tech or Baylor.
