If I don’t do research in college, will it affect my chances of getting into medical school?

I’ve heard that research opportunities present themselves to students in college. However, what if I never get the opportunity to be chosen to participate in a conducted research investigation? Will it lower my chances of getting in to a medical school? #research #medical-research

What career options are there for economics majors?

I am studying economics at Brown; I really like how economic thinking can solve problems, but I am not a huge fan of math (I do not plan to take any beyond statistics and Calc II which are required). I am very interested in public policy, but more from an applied microeconomics view (rather than macro policy). I'm not super interested in finance/consulting/business, but I haven't ruled it out. I think teaching and research would be super cool, but I know getting an economics Phd is a lot of math. What career options would y'all suggest? #economics #policy #professor #career #phd #government #research

How to propose to professor ready for research?

Next semester I am transferring to a new school as a junior. After e-mailing two professors about an independent research class, one e-mailed back mentioning that while I have a lot of research experience, students in their first semester are not normally approved to do independent research and I should contact the other teacher about it. If the other teacher says similar, what would be a good response in hopes to persuade them? My first e-mail listed previous experience and what topics interest me for research and what skills I hope to gain. I thought it may be beneficial to provide the teacher's contact information that previous research was conducted under since she knows what I am capable of and has seen how hard I work. My first semester will also be an easier semester since I am taking two ecology classes (one with lab) that cover some of the same material (both prerequisites for diff. classes I hope to take), plus an Intro to Biology 2 class taken already covered many different ecology topics. Two other classes will be taken that have no lab component and are intro classes. Should I include the information that the semester would not be too demanding with other classes which would make it beneficial to include the research class? What other information should I include? #ecology #conservation #college #research

What is the difference between medical school and graduate school in terms of biochemistry?

I have been trying to find detailed information as to how both are different but most websites either give the superficial information or they only talk about how they are similar. I do not know what path to choose so I want to be able to know the difference between the two. I know medical school is expensive and mind-breaking but the degree has higher value and you get to be recognized. Thing is I don't want to be a doctor I want to be the one performing research and test trials. On the other hand, graduate school focuses on research and the price is durable but the value of the degree is less in a way? So like what is the difference...#medicalschool #graduateschool #biochemistry #research

What's it really like to be a Neurosurgeon or in Neuroscience in general?

I originally wanted to pursue a career in Astrology or any science. I felt that if I wanted to achieve goals such as doing charity and making the world a better place, I needed a high paying career/job that would be enjoyable and interesting. So, what are the feelings of being a Neurosurgeon; having something so delicate in your hands and trying to save someone's life. Are they usually involved in research as well? Will the field of genetics be detrimental to my personal beliefs?

I am planning to pursue a #STEM degree in either #genetics or #molecular-biology, but I am afraid that my field will be filled with people who are actively trying to cure #autism which is not something that can be cured, but is just a different mind type with a wide range of symptoms and effects. I also do not agree with the search for a so-called "gay gene" because I feel that is only motivated by the want to edit said gene out of the population. Are there places to conduct #research that aren't as biased/bigoted? I know that #johns-hopkins-university is out of the question because their magazine had both of the above "studies". Is there a safe alternative for me, or do I have to deal with intolerance and ignorance anywhere I go?
