Which major should I choose for undergrad if I want to become a surgeon?

Should I go for pre-med or just biology/chemistry degrees? What are the steps it takes to become a surgeon? Is it the same as being a regular physician? Furthermore, are there things I'm supposed to be doing in undergrad if I want to become a surgeon? Thank you for answering my questions!

What is the best major for Medical School?

I hear a lot of people choose majors other than pre-med/biology based majors even though they plan to take the MCAT and go to medical school. I am currently thinking about being a biochemistry major or entering the engineering department and am wondering whether that will have a significant impact on my MCAT score and getting into medical school. #premed #engineering #medical-practice #medicine

How important is it to be an extrovert to become a doctor?

I want a career in the medical field. I love school and am very interested in the sciences and medicine/biology in particular. I am also shy and not sure I have the 'people skills' needed to become a doctor, which is what I believe I want to do. I need to know if I am better off pursuing something else. #medical-practice #medicine #medschool #introvert

Is it harder for D.O.'s to get the same respect as M.D.'s?

I've recently become interested in #osteopathic #medicine. The philosophy of treating patients as a whole instead of just symptoms appeals to me. However, I've heard that it may be hard for D.O.'s to find residencies that are not biased. I hadn't even heard of D.O.'s until a year ago, neither have many people that I know. Will this effect how I will be seen as a #doctor? #premed #premedical #premedicine #physician #medical-practice #medschool #medical-school #holistic

How does the path to becoming a plastic surgeon differ from that of a general surgeon?

Recently, I've been intrigued by a fascinating and controversial career: plastic/reconstructive surgeon. How does the path toward becoming a plastic surgeon differ from someone aspiring to be a general surgeon? And what does this journey entail? It has always haunted me on whether there is any initial difference between the two career paths or does this difference occur later on in residency? Thanks, Alexis K. #medical-practice #plastic-surgery #plastic-surgeon #general-surgery #surgeon #medicine #surgery #medical-school #doctor #career

When I was growing up I’ve always wanted to be a cardiologist. However, recently I’ve started doing a lot of research and thought that I might want to go to dental school instead. How do I decide? What steps are necessary to become an anesthesiologist?

I don’t come from a family of money or a family in the medical career. Honestly I don’t want to become an anesthesiologist for the interest but I have learned that anything I focus towards I grow to love that subject and a job like anesthesiology is something not many people will do, but I will go above and beyond to pursue this career if it means to support my loved ones who can’t support themselves, that is my true goal. #anesthesiology #family-dentistry #medical-practice #hospital-and-health-care #healthcare #medicine

Hello! My name is Vinh and I am a current high school student. I'm conducting an interview with any professional in the pharmaceutical or family medicine physician field for a Foundations in Health Science Class project about careers!

This is my second time asking this question. Unfortunately, I had only one person answer my previous question, so I wanted to ask again to get my questions out there. I have created a total of 13 questions. Comment on this post, answering all 13 questions to be a part of my assignment. 1. What profession did you choose? Why? 2. How many years of college did you need to go through? 3. What jobs did you work before you landed your present professional job? 4. How can I decide if I should earn a Ph.D. in this field? 5. Were you in a college program? 6. Did you have to pivot and go back to school at a later date? 7. Did you shadow another professional in the field? 8. Did you join any school clubs related to your current profession? 9. Was there a particular subject you struggled with during your school years? 10. What skill sets did you learn or gain while pursuing your career? 11. What is the hardest part about working in your professional job? 12. Were there any obstacles that you faced that slowed you down? If so, how did you stop them? 13. What would you like for people to know about this particular career before pursuing it? Thank you for answering these questions, I really appreciate you being a part of my assignment. Please make sure that you have answered every question, as my assignment needs all of them.

What sparks one's calling towards a career?

For most teenagers today, its very confusing and mentally challenging choosing a career path for one's whole future. For me, I want to go into the medical field. I am currently in my school's CNA and CMAA certification program. Just this week when I went to a nursing home for hours, the conditions weren't great. It had me thinking of my future and if medical is really where I should go. On the other hand, Summer 2016 I attended a medical camp where I learned skills and important information on health careers. When on a trip to the New York College of Medicine, I held a human heart in my own two hands. I was sure this was my calling. At this point after being hands on, I need reassurance. #medical-practice #medicine #doctor #futuredoctor

I am interested in pursuing a career in nursing. will it be worth it to go to a community college or a university?

I have looked all over the internet to find out what is better to do. There is a shortage on nurses, which means lots of jobs. I want to know if it is necessary to go to either. My dream is so go to a university and have the college experience. I also want to come out with a job and only a little bit of debt. This scholarship would help me follow my dreams of going to a university and being a certified nurse.. #nursing #health-science #medical-practice #money #scholarships

What are somethings you did in high school to help you go into the medical field?

Hi, My name is Cindy and I go by she/her pronouns. I have always wanted to work in the medical field. It wasn't to long ago that I found my passion in working in the ER. There are a few personal reasons that push me to hope to become an MD in the ER. That also brings me to ask a questions on how to become one and how to get accepted into my dream college of IU.
