Should I get a part-time or university job while attending classes?

It has been something that I have been questioning since I started at university. I know that I need a greater amount of experience than I have currently, and in getting a job, I will have more funds. Which is just a touch important. On the other side, a part-time job may not be in the field of my preference, and will definitely cause an issue when it comes to hours needed for study. So, is a part-time job during your time at university, if you do not actively require it, still something that should be considered? Can it just depend on your situation? What langauge courses would be most beneficial to study in university?

Most universities (that I have seen) require a language as a part of your study program. Are there any languages that are preferred by employers or should be considered more (i.e. ASL, Chinese, Spanish..) or can it just be our preference? Thank you! #foreign-languages #university #language #college

How do Independent Research Positions or Projects Work at University?

I recently completed and presented a project for a class in which my professor was over the moon about. After class, he suggested that next semester I could turn this project (it was a GIS campus project, in which I worked with Services and various other departments to complete) into an independent study. He was not very specific on the details, so I was wondering, how do typical independent research project courses work? How does the grading work? If the topic proves unsuccessful, does that mean I fail? #gis #university #courses #project #research

Which are the best American colleges for user experience (UX) design?

Hi! I'm 27 years old and decide to invest 2 years in my life to join a graduate program. When I graduate again, I will be 29. It's not a very young age, so I'm careful in choosing which college to spend this 2 year with. My future career plan is to be a UX designer, with focus on the intersection of data science and user experience design. If there is a chance to work with search experience, I will definitely go for it. Which American universities are the best choices in UX design education? How will the recruiters see the universities? Thanks. #user-experience #design #information-technology #computer #search #university #college

Would it be better to obtain an undergraduate and graduate degree separately or together in a single program?

I am a high school student going into my senior year and can't decide which program route I should go into. Over the summer, I have discovered my passion for the occupational therapy field and the good that comes out of it. Knowing very well that I want to major in that study, I started looking into universities that offer an occupational therapy program. I soon found out that there aren't many colleges that offer an undergraduate program for occupational therapy, solely because it is a field that requires a graduate degree to be licensed. I have found a few colleges that offer a 5-year combined BS/MS program for occupational therapy, but that would mean I would have to sacrifice my opportunity to attend a top school. Should I result to being accepted into a better university, getting a bachelor's in a related major, and then later obtaining my master's of occupational therapy? Or should I stick with the 5-year program in a much lower rank school? What are the differences beside time length to be licensed? #occupational-therapy #college-major #college-degree #bachelor's #masters-degree #masters #undergraduate #graduate-school #university #college

How do you find a college that is best fit for you?

I am going into my senior year of high school and need to start preparing for college applications. There are several universities that I have been drawn to, but after doing a ton of research, I could not seem to find a university that offers the whole package. I plan to go into the field of occupational therapy in the future, so when I discovered the 5-year BS/MS OT program, I set my mind on getting into one. Throughout high school, I also focused on maintaining a pretty high GPA to increase my chances in getting accepted into one of the top 30 universities in the United States. Additionally, I am looking into colleges on the East coast so I won't be too far from my family. Of course, recreational facilities, hands-on opportunities, and tuition cost are other big things I look for in a college. To my disclosure, there aren't many options that carry the whole load. When choosing one university, I would have to toss out some of the perks I wanted. How can I find a college that is right for me? #college #university #east-coast #occupational-therapy #gpa #college-selection #college-prep

How would I go about becoming a pediatric occupational therapist?

I am going into my senior year of high school and have recently discovered my passion in the field of pediatric occupational therapy. I am fully aware that I must attend graduate school and obtain at least a master's degree to be licensed in the United States. I have been looking into combined bachelor's and master's programs where I can get both my undergraduate and first level graduate studies done in five years. In my perspective, this type of OT program will be the most beneficial and efficient way for me to prepare for the exam and eventually become licensed. Unfortunately, not many universities or colleges offer a combined BS/MS program for OT or an OT program in general. I worked hard throughout high school in order to maintain a weighted 4.35 GPA. My goal was to attend a top university, but in order to do so, I am risking a critical advancement in my studies. Should I attend a top school and solely get a bachelor's degree (and additionally a master's degree in a separate program) or attend a lower ranking school that offers a 5-year OT program? #occupational-therapy #occupational-health #whichpath #college #college-major #university

How do you address recipients in your email professionally?

Hello! I'm currently a freshman university student, and I send a lot of emails through my university email, to professors and university staff alike. I've done research on the right ways to email professors, reading tons and tons of articles but a Google search can't seem to help me. It's a little hard to discern when to use "Professor" and when to use "Ms." or "Mrs." or "Mr."--which is completely different from high school, where seeing teachers daily let you know how to address them. In college, it's a different story. How would you start an email to someone older than you? I always try to look at what they sign off the email with, but starting off with "Hello William," to the head of the Global Studies department is rather off-putting to me. Do you use Professor, or Mr. or Mrs.? What about your T.A.s? Or the head of the Residential Life Department, or a financial aid advisor? What if they're not married? #college #university #communications #professional-development #communication-skills #professional-training #email #professionalism #personal-development

Is it wise to study for a Masters when most of the jobs you are looking for requires only a Degree? How much more powerful is a Masters compared to a Degree?

I'm someone who is focused on lifelong learning, and I would prefer to stick to learning more about the world around me, rather than starting work so early and simply watch the money come in. Most adults tell me that once you see those digits in your banks account go up, very few would want to go back to studying. By the way, if I'm correct, this is pertaining to Investment Banking in particular. May be applicable to other fields too. #computer-software #medicine #university #biomedical-engineering #investment-management #astronomy #academic-advising #investment-banking
