I'm a marketing major in my 3rd year - but I loved my accounting class! How do I know which to major in?
I am currently a third year student in marketing. I switched to marketing at the beginning of my third year, so the business classes were knew to me. I will be graduating late. I took accounting 1 this fall and I absolutely loved it - which is weird for me to say. I didn't know anything about accounting before this class, so I thought I was going to dread it. It ended up being really "easy" for me since I enjoyed figuring the problems out and didn't mind studying. This was my first college class that I felt this way about. It is making me want to switch my major to accounting. Although, I haven't taken any marketing classes yet. I enjoy marketing partly because I enjoy the free range of job opportunities after undergrad. I like that it is creative and has endless job opportunities that don't all involve a job in a cubicle. I was looking for advice on this decision I have. I definitely need to shadow people in accounting and in marketing, but was also looking for advice on here from anyone! #major #business #college #advisor #accounting #marketing #career #advice #majors #jobs

When going into college, is it fine to not have a clear idea of what you want to do?
I am only a sophomore in high school and I have a general gist of what I would like to do, but I am not really sure if I could decide when the time comes later. There's a few things I enjoy but I don't really know how classes will work for college exactly. I really like subjects like biology and computer science, but I don't really know if it is something I would enjoy for a career. I am worried I will commit to something I don't want to pursue anymore and waste time and money. It's also difficult to decide on a college for this reason.
How could I boost my CV to become a product manager eventually?
I've always thought of becoming a strategy consultant, though I fear the opportunity has passed. Lately, I have come to know of product management and took on a course with Udacity and loved it. However, I am really not sure how to get into it from where I am at as there do not seem to be entry jobs. I’d like to know the best approaches to get there. I am fairly old and have rather little experience at this point that I could boast. How should I efficiently use my time to boost my my CV/experience/etc.? What would you do if you loved your job but hated your work environment? Would you leave? How would you cope?
For example, I've worked as a copy editor and/or copywriter for both my high school yearbook and college newspaper, and while I wouldn't say that I've LOVED journalism, I do find it enjoyable at times. I would prefer to be doing creative writing, but I genuinely enjoy all types of writing, and I've cherished all the times that I was able to have touching experiences and interesting conversations with people that I wouldn't have talked to if it weren't for my job as a copywriter forcing me to conduct interviews. However, in both cases, I've hated my actual work environment. There are so many things that I resent, like how I know I'm perfectly capable of doing my job and I'm probably one of the best writers on the team, but I'm not treated like it and my work isn't valued. I never missed a deadline when I wrote for the yearbook, and I even picked up articles that other writers couldn't complete in time when we were in a time crunch, but no one ever thanked me for it. Honestly, I don't think that being thanked or feeling appreciated is too much to expect; these should be essential components of a healthy work environment. But when these components are in fact missing, what should you do? Should you quit your job? Sometimes it's not that easy. And if you choose not to quit and just stick it out, how do you cope? How do you stay sane? When I don't feel valued for the work that I do, it's extremely difficult for me to find motivation to keep up the quality of my work. I mean, if I don't feel that me or my work are valued, what's the point? What steps do I have to take to become an industrial engineer?
Hello, I'm having a hard time picking a major in what I would like to do. Currently, I am majoring in biology but I'm starting to think it is not for me. I am thinking about taking on a career in math. Industrial engineering seems to be compatible with me. I am very social, math clicks, and I like how industrial engineering falls into so many categories. You can do anything with that. However, my college only has programs for Chemical Engineering Civil Engineering Electrical & Computer Engineering Industrial Technology Mechanical Engineering Petroleum Engineering. I am not sure where to start to become an industrial engineer with these options. It would be a dream job to work with Disney World but I'm not sure how to get there. Also, how would I come about contacting an industrial engineer? -Thank you #career #engineer #major #advice #industrial #disney
