How big of a deal is location when it comes to finding a job?

For a current high school student planning to pursue neuroscience in high school, what is the best place in the U.S. to find work after college? Are there any geographic areas in the country that have more need for people in the field? I would especially like to go into research...but we'll see where college takes me! #neuroscience #job #job-search #work #college #after-college #research #stem #science

It is worth it to keep music in my life as I pursure college and careers?

All throughout k-12 school, music has been a big part of my life. Playing principal clarinet in numerous all-state events and solo contests throughout my high school career has been a big part of my life. However, I am probably going to pursue science in college, and I am wondering if I should keep playing at all. After all, knowing scales and etudes isn't going to help me much in a field of physics or neuroscience. Should I go with my brain and drop it, go with my heart and keep it, or do both somehow? #music #clarinet #neuroscience #science #physics #stem #double-major

Should I consider changing my wildlife/conservation biology major if I am bad at math?

I want to pursue a degree in conservation biology or wildlife biology, and have been told by previous professionals that I should keep my grades up in science math classes. While I enjoy and excel in my science classes, I am not as good at math. I am able to maintain an A or high B in all math classes, however it has always been a difficult subject for me if it does not involve a formula, or some sort of defined rule to follow. I didn't think conservation biology would be as concentrated on math, but if it is, should I consider changing my major? #wildlife-conservation #wildlife-biology #stemcareers #stem #choosing-a-major

What is the gender gap like in upper level sciences, first hand?

I am a female, high school senior considering a career path in upper level mathematics, academia and research. I am very concerned with underrepresentation of women and I would like to know of any first hand experiences. Researching online I find a lot of statistics, but I would like more. Will the field of genetics be detrimental to my personal beliefs?

I am planning to pursue a #STEM degree in either #genetics or #molecular-biology, but I am afraid that my field will be filled with people who are actively trying to cure #autism which is not something that can be cured, but is just a different mind type with a wide range of symptoms and effects. I also do not agree with the search for a so-called "gay gene" because I feel that is only motivated by the want to edit said gene out of the population. Are there places to conduct #research that aren't as biased/bigoted? I know that #johns-hopkins-university is out of the question because their magazine had both of the above "studies". Is there a safe alternative for me, or do I have to deal with intolerance and ignorance anywhere I go?

What is the best major to go for stem cell/tissue engineering?

My end goal is stem cell and tissue engineering, but I don't know which major is best for me to take and learn the most for it. I've researched for a while now and have gathered that I can choose from ChemE with Bio electives, Materials Science, or Bioengineering. I just want to work in research labs, which has lead me to think Bioengineering would fit best, but others say ChemE and Materials Science are better. #bioengineering #chemical-engineering #materials-science #biology #college-major #tissue-engineering #stem #stem-cells

Can psychology be applied to the field of computer science and more specifically, to artificial intelligence? If so, how?

While I would love to major in computer science, I am also very interested in psychology and would love to also get a degree in the subject as it pertains to nearly every aspect of the real world. As a result, I am very curious about the interaction and connection, if any, between psychology and computer science. Seeing that technology becomes more and more fundamental in our everyday lives and artificial intelligence continues to grow at an exponential rate, I was wondering if certain psychological concepts could be applied to construct robots that can think and behave just like a human being? And if so, how? #stem #psychology #artificial-intelligence

What track should I take if I love arts and mathematics?

Hi! I'm currently a Grade 10 student and about to finish my Junior High School on March or April. Last week, we had a career day where we learned about the different tracks that we should take for Senior High School. I'm a little bit worried because despite that the orientation was conducted for 3 days, I'm still bothered if I will take Arts and design Track or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Strand. I really love arts but I don't want to leave math behind. So I think, I'll take Architecture in college (though I'm still not 100 percent sure what career should I pursue in the future) because it has both arts and mathematics. But during our Career Day, both Arts and Design and STEM offers Architecture. Now I don't really know where will I enroll? Can someone give some advises? Thank You Very Much! #ArtsAndDesign or #STEM #SHS #helpmeoutplease #thankyousomuch

Is it possible to learn scientific terms in another language while studying science in English?

I am already bilingual (speak English and Spanish), but my Spanish-speaking abilities still lie a lot more on the informal/conversational side rather than formal/technical. I know that just knowing another language will benefit me no matter what, but I feel that it won't help me as much in my career unless I can actually speak professionally in either language. Is there a feasible way of learning the new terms in Spanish alongside the English ones without feeling like I'm overloading my brain? Or should I leave that more for outside the school year/after graduating? #science #stem #women-in-stem #language #foreign-languages #study #studying #studying-tips

Do you have to be a 'math person' or a 'science person' to be successful in STEM?

I understand that most anyone can major most anything if they work hard and are persistent. However, it is clear that some of my peers are much quicker with learning concepts within STEM than I am, or it feels like their minds are just wired to do mental math or calculate or work through quantitative reasoning with ease and grace. It takes me a lot more explaining and thinking to understand some concepts in my math and chemistry classes and I admittedly still use a calculator double check my multiplication and other arithmetic. I admittedly am very talented in other ways--working with people, thinking outside of the box, writing, and other qualitative skills-- but does this mean I'm doomed to only be mediocre in a STEM field, even if I manage to get the degree? #skills #choosing-a-major #success #stem #mathematics #science

Where are the best places for conducting scientific research?

I hope to enter the field (likely along the lines of genetic or cellular/molecular biology research) after college; however, I know that tons of others are hoping to do the same. I have also heard that scientific research is being less and less funded in the United States. With that reality looming over my head, I'm already worrying about if I'll get a position that I will enjoy and be able to survive financially with- and I'm only a freshman!
