What should I do before I apply to colleges and related programs/scholarships in order to have a competitive application that stands out?

I am getting ready to go into my senior year of high school and want to make the most out of it before I apply to colleges and related programs/scholarships. I am interested in doing biochemistry and animal sciences, considering double majoring. My long term goal is to go to vet school. I already work at a vet clinic, have lots of leadership and volunteer experience, get good grades, have shadowed veterinarians, and take many science/health classes. I have also been very involved inside and outside of school in a variety of activities. Lately I’ve tried to find more opportunities related to animals. I feel like I’m in a good place for applying to colleges but is there anything I should be doing to stand out? I want to apply for competitive programs such as Purdue’s Veterinary Scholars Program.

How do scientific researchers come up with their ideas?

I'm an 11th grader in some biotechnology classes, and it's got me very interested in pursuing a career in medical research. However, I don't really understand how researchers come up with their ideas. Is there a list out there to choose from, or do people come up with them themselves? Because I've been trying and never came up with anything.

When do I begin studying for the MCAT?

I just finished my first year as an undergraduate student. I'm majoring in biochemistry and minoring in psychology. I know these two fields are very helpful for the MCAT. (I am very interested in those fields as well, so it was not the only reason I chose them.) When did you begin studying for the MCAT, and would it be too soon if I began prepping now? What degree is more helpful between biochemistry, molecular biology, or microbiology?

I am a currently biochemistry student and I am very indecisive in my career path. I want to ultimately research and help in the process of creating medicines and treatments to disorders, but I also want to study genetics and cancer stem research. So, I have decided to either undertake a minor or double major in molecular biology or microbiology. Correct me on this if I am wrong, but I researched that with a biochemistry degree one can utilize it to help make medicine or find treatments to diseases and disorders. Meanwhile, a molecular biology degree can be utilized to study disorders and bacterial diseases. So, which degree would be more helpful towards a job field as described? My college only provides molecular biology, biochemistry, biology and a minor in microbiology #biology #medicine #biochemistry #science #molecular-biology #microbiology #genetics #diseases

What is the difference between medical school and graduate school in terms of biochemistry?

I have been trying to find detailed information as to how both are different but most websites either give the superficial information or they only talk about how they are similar. I do not know what path to choose so I want to be able to know the difference between the two. I know medical school is expensive and mind-breaking but the degree has higher value and you get to be recognized. Thing is I don't want to be a doctor I want to be the one performing research and test trials. On the other hand, graduate school focuses on research and the price is durable but the value of the degree is less in a way? So like what is the difference...#medicalschool #graduateschool #biochemistry #research

What of my interests would be worth making minors/majors on my planned degree in environmental engineering?

I plan to get a degree in environmental engineering, but I also love biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and non-science-related Spanish. Would it be too difficult, expensive, or otherwise to add any of those as a second major and/or have the remaining be minors? Medical biochemistry vs clinical pathology

Hi. Recently I was searching information about medical residencies and I found out that laboratory medicine has some kind of two "similar" specialties. So, my question is: what are the main differences between a physician with a specialty in medical biochemistry and another one with clinical pathology? The first one will be doing 5 years of training focusing only on medical biochemistry and the second one will get an overall training within all the different laboratory fields (biochem., microbio., haemathology, etc.). Which one is better in terms of "skills" for a "laboratory physician"? Does the clinical pathologist having the same knowledge in biochemistry than the medical biochemist physician? Thank you! #medicine #biochemistry #pathologist #healthcare #physician

Biomedical Engineering vs Chemical Engineering with Bio specialization?

I have been interested in pursuing a Biomedical Engineering major. However, people argue that biomedical engineering is the jack of all trades and master of none. This has been concerning for me as I would very much like to major in something and feel that I have mastered what I am learning without needing to go back to school for a Master's Degree. I aim to be successful in an engineering career once I have graduated my bachelor's degree.
